A night after… Leah woke up with sores on her body. But Elliot wasn't in the room. Leah could only smell the scent of tobacco he left in the room. Leah walked to the bathroom to take a shower. After that, she went downstairs. The first person Leah saw was a good-looking middle-aged woman who sat on the couch. She was staring at her with her arms crossed over her chest. Leah had seen this woman from the photos her father showed her. It was Elliot's aunt, Jessica Evans. Rumour had it that Elliot lost his parent since young, and Jessica raised him. Then, Leonard, Elliot's grandfather, brought them back. Elliot built his own business empire by himself, and ever since then, he had been treating Jessica like his own mother. Jessica was sizing Leah up, "That sly bastard Samuel. He broke his promise. He knew we wanted Melissa, but instead, he sent you. Did he see us as a recycling center? I don't know why Elliot kept you here, but since you're married to him now, you better behave. Don't think that you've become anybody after marrying Elliot. We're not stupid." "Now, go get lunch ready. You'll need to be more virtuous as a wife." There were maids in the Harper manor, but Jessica asked Leah, a new joiner of the family, to cook lunch for the family. Leah looked down when she saw Jessica staring at her with an unfriendly look. Leah understood that Jessica was making things difficult for her on purpose, but she couldn't fight her. A woman who had no support could never fight people like Jessica. Leah could only accept and obey Jessica's instructions. Leah then headed to the kitchen. It was only a meal. It wasn't a big deal at all. However, Leah's attitude didn't gain respect from Jessica at all. Jessica thought Leah was weak. She sneered and said, "Indecent dirt." Leah was stunned for a second. Then, she pretended that she heard nothing and headed into the kitchen. After a while, Elliot got home from the office. Jessica asked him to get ready for lunch. Elliot turned around and saw Leah wearing an apron, and she was busy cooking dishes in the kitchen. Elliot frowned. Jessica smiled and explained when she saw Elliot frowning, "She wanted it. Perhaps she wanted us to try out her cooking skills." Elliot nodded and remained silent. Leah grew up with her grandmother, so she knew how to do house chores. Soon, she came out with four dishes and one pot of soup. The maids in the house saw how capable the newly wedded Mrs. Harper was, but it didn't gain their respect. Because only those in the lower class of the society knew how to serve people, and those in the higher class only deserved to enjoy serving by people. Everyone's attention, including the maids, was on Elliot during the meal. Leah felt like an invisible woman, and it was very uncomfortable. She quickly grabbed a few bites and went upstairs after greeting Jessica and Elliot to run away from the awkwardness. After Leah left, Jessica pouted, "What a rude girl. Did she think she was dumb and she can be impolite with us?" Elliot ignored Jessica. He took a file and started perusing the document. Jessica rolled her eyes when she saw Elliot ignored her. Jessica continued saying, "Elliot, the Walsh are so rude. They tricked us with a dumb. It is unbearable! And they wanted you to invest in their company? No way!" Jessica knew what her nephew was capable of, so she wasn't worried that the Walsh family would get away with it. It was just that when Jessica thought about Elliot's dumb wife, she felt comfortable as it could become the laughing stock of the other rich wives. However, Elliot didn't respond to what Jessica said. He didn't even give her an expression. Jessica knew Elliot didn't want to comment further on the topic, so she cozied up to Elliot with a smile, "Scott Spencer's going to come back from Country F after all these years studying in meds. You can't ask him to call a dumb 'sister-in-law'. He'll become a laughing stock. Divorce that dumb girl after this. I'll help to find another girl to fill in the place of young mistress of the Harper family." Finally, Elliot responded to Jessica's suggestion. He glanced at Jessica expressionlessly, "I know what to do. You don't have to worry about it," Elliot sounded cold and distant. It startled Jessica. After Elliot left, Holly approached Jessica and consoled her, "Lady, Mr. Harper said that because he didn't want to bother you. Don't overthink." Jessica looked worried. She sighed, "How can I not? Elliot changed a lot ever since he got rescued from the human trafficker. He was so distant compared to when he was young. Although he brought me back into the Harper manor to enjoy life, I knew he blamed me. Elliot wouldn't be taken away by human traffickers if it wasn't for my carelessness. He had gone through so much." Holly opened her mouth, but she didn't know what to say. Elliot had been so successful in the business field, but he became more and more isolated, cold and cruel. She couldn't blame Jessica for overthinking.
