Chapter 3 Letting It Go Unchecked
Cheerful laughter filled the Walsh family villa.
Melissa, who had a delicate face, held Samuel Walsh's arm and said coquettishly, "Dad, just buy that Maserati for me. We've already gotten the 2 million dollars from the Harper family anyway; we won't need to worry about money anymore in the future!"
Samuel, who was sitting on a chair reading newspaper, heard what his daughter said.
He turned to her peevishly and stared at her, "You still dare to request a sports car? I told you to marry into the Harper family, but you didn't go. I really don't know what are you thinking? The Harper family is so rich, you could have gotten everything you wanted!"
Melissa wrinkled her nose, looking disdained, "Dad! Elliot is so ugly, and I heard that he has a weird temper too! I feel disgusted just thinking about it, so why should I marry him! What's more, didn't that dumb Leah has already married him in my place?"
After a pause, she rolled her eyes, and smiled cunningly, "But I'm more than willing to marry if the person is Scott Spencer. I heard that he has gotten his medical doctorate in country F, and he's handsome with full of prospects. I prefer him more."
After all, Melissa was the apple of Samuel's eyes since young, so he couldn't force her to marry someone she didn't like.
But that was also the reason that she had become so spoilt now.
Samuel let of a sigh and poked on her little nose, "Scott is Jessica's son. He's not the heir of the Harper family, so there's no benefit in marrying him. What's more, Elliot is not a person to be trifled with. If Leah hadn't taken your place, how can we find someone to replace you in such a short time?"
Melissa raised her chin and said scornfully, "Even if she didn't go, there's still someone else. Who knows, maybe she has been thinking of marrying into the Harper family! She's just a mute who cannot talk; she's already considered super lucky to be able to marry into a rich family!"
Samuel smiled but didn't say anything else.
Only he knew it clearly that he was the one who had threatened Leah to marry Elliot with her grandmother's life-saving money.
But he didn't need to let his little princess worry about this.
Even though Leah was also his own daughter, but Melissa was a precious gem that he had doted since young, while the other one was only a mute that was placed in a remote village and reunited recently.
Naturally, there was no comparison.
Furthermore, Leah couldn't bring glory to the Walsh family, unlike Melissa.
The father and daughter were chatting happily.
Then, a call suddenly came from the company.
After Samuel answered the phone, his expression immediately changed, "What did you say? The capital chain transferred from the Harper family is gone? This is impossible!"
The person from the other side of the phone said something else, and Samuel's expression became even more solemn.
Melissa sat close by him.
Hearing that the money was gone, her expression immediately changed too, "Dad, what should we do?"
Samuel furrowed his eyebrows as though thinking about something.
Then, he gnashed his teeth and said bitterly, "This bastard Elliot! How dare he fool me? I've married my daughter to him, and he actually went back on his words!"
"That ugly bastard is really annoying!" Melissa felt relieved, "Luckily I didn't marry him. How can this scum go back on his words, he is simply not a good person!"
Then, she looked at her father and asked hesitantly, "Dad, what should we do next?"
Samuel calmed down and pondered for a while, "Since he chose to go back on his words, he can't blame me for being heartless. Don't forget that Leah is still at the Harper family."
Seeing that her father was confident, Melissa immediately smiled.
Her father had always been wise and resourceful.
Elliot would be like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered!
At this time, Leah was mopping the floor.
Jessica sat on the sofa and drank her tea, staring at Leah with picky eyes.
"Remember to clean it thoroughly. As the daughter-in-law of the Harper family, you need to be diligent and thrifty. From now on, you need to clean the house every day. Holly is already an old servant in the Harper family, so you shouldn't let her toil. You need to share some of her workloads. We don't need a lazy daughter-in-law in the Harper family."
Jessica didn't like this mute, but she couldn't flagrantly drive her away.
She was afraid that it would affect the Harper family's century-old reputation, so she could only find trouble with Leah and let her leave herself, "Of course, if you feel aggrieved, you can leave the Harper family. I'm going out to have afternoon tea with someone else. Faster do your work and don't be lazy!"
After saying that, she picked up her handbag and went out.
Leah watched her leave the door then only let out a long sigh of relief.
Jessica was simply too abrasive.
It was tiring to get along with her.
